re-inspiration

KEELY02

There has been a freshness and newness that has taken over my hairdresser brain.  While merely months ago, I felt like this was the end, like it was time to quit and move on to something different…today I find my thoughts moving from idea to creative idea.  Ahhh!!  New-ness!  I feel like a beginner again, only a beginner with confidence and the desire to know more…to know all.  The possibilities really are endless.

A state of mania.

I worry that this inspiration and thirst to create will end as quickly as it has arrived…and so I must work tirelessly on keeping the ideas alive and in motion.  I must work on allowing one idea to feed into the next idea and to never let that fire die down.  I’ve got projects going on in the basement and sink and sketchbook.  I’ve got hair on the brain.  I’ve got art on the brain.

I am going to dive deep into this industry that I’ve been sort of hiding in for about 10 years.  I’ve never really wanted to put myself out there as a hairdresser before.  I’ve always secretly thought it was this fleeting thing…this day job…even though I do enjoy it immensely.  I want to take chances and enter contests and create wild images.  I want to lift up my salon.  I want to collaborate with other artists and push the boundaries of what beauty is…of what art could be.

Has it really taken 10 years for these two parallel careers to collide?  Have I really separated them that much in my head, knowing full well that they are supposed to work together?  It’s strange….

Let’s do this.

Happy thoughts

It’s interesting to see just how much we humans agonize over happiness.  Isn’t it?  We research it, we read about it, we make lists about it, we dream, goal-set, prioritize, flip-flop, argue about it, we buy colorful magazines that talk about it, we buy a lot of things for it actually, we blame, we start to loathe it sometimes, and then…sometimes, all of a sudden, it’s here!

Strange.  How a few days in the sunshine and a little break from the normal routine can re-spark that zest for life.  Puts it all in perspective…that life is short and every day is a step towards something better and greater.  I find that it helps me to make lists of things…

…so here’s my list of things that are currently filling me up:

*Cadbury chocolate Mini-Eggs…they come out for Easter time and they are  my favorite.

*A new clever book called One More Thing: Stories and other Stories by BJ Novak.  It’s a collection of short stories written with wit and humor…my favorite!  He was a writer for The Office and he wrote the children’s book, The Book with No Words.

*My good friend is having a baby at any moment!  Her due date is today!  I remember those last days of waiting were so strange and interesting and excruciating…but the wait is so worth it.  Good Luck to her!!

*Um…sunshine!  It’s 40 degrees here in the chilly Midwest.  That, my friends, is a heat wave.  I like to think I brought it back with me.  I’ll take credit where credit is due.

*Yellow tulips

*FlexJobs.com…which I haven’t officially signed up for because I have to pay a monthly fee, but basically you can find freelance/telecommuting jobs with legit companies.  Not scam companies.  I can tell you more as I find out, but why not write some blog posts for someone part-time and get paid?  Right?  Write?  Right?

*Coffee delivered to me by my husband while I type…yessssssssss

*Another book that I ordered that will arrive on Tuesday.  It’s called Do Cool Shit (Quit your day job, Start your own business, and Live happily ever after).  Pretty sweet eh?  By Miki Agrawal.  Not saying I’m ready to start my own business but I just really like books that break down overwhelming, larger than life events with witty, down to earth writing.  Yup.

*New work digs!  My job moved locations last week and we start in a new, fresh space tomorrow!  It’s so strange but also super great.  It’s great that we are growing and able to expand a little.  Yay!

*The sketch comedy class that I’m taking online through The Second City.  Let’s get weird, people.

What’s making you guys happy lately?

Yield!

Woah.  Woahhh!!!! Just look at how close I was to the Pearl Jam stage!

Ok…it doesn’t seem all that close…but it’s the closest I’ve ever been.  My other seats were way way way up in the nosebleed seats at Wrigley.  This was a vast improvement.

I can’t quite put into words how unbelievably great the show was.  It was spectacular!  So spectacular that, amongst the crowd of phones recording and photographing, I only took 3 photos total.  Concerts are an experience that should be savored.

From the start…from Pendulum to Mind Your Manners to Corduroy…from Baba with a special guest from Cheap Trick…It had the making of an unforgettable show.

All of Yield.  ALL of YIELD!!

Two encores, all the great songs that everyone wants to hear…Black, Alive, Yellow Led, nearly three and a half hours of non stop jams, cheeky and sweet anecdotes from Eddie, and we sang happy birthday to Tom Petty! I loved it all.  It was magical.  Magical music that turns fleeting moments into long lasting memories.

I know that I almost always talk about my love of grunge and Pearl Jam, but I bet you didn’t know that I like hip hop.  I bet you didn’t know that I saw a kid politely swallow … Continue reading

Immortality

You may not know the importance of the outfit I am wearing today…I didn’t connect the dots until moments after I heard the news.

Turns out…my ultimate band, Pearl Jam, announced additional dates to their fall tour.  Um, guess who’s city is on the list???

Um, yeah, obviously…this girl’s.

Ecstatic!!

My town, my backyard, my turf, my people…my favorite songs played in my favorite city…for me (and only me)!

Surely I know someone who knows someone who can get me backstage?? Surely I can bribe someone’s brother’s cousin to let me into the sanctuary that is the backstage?? Or sound check?? I would be ok sitting on the sidelines for sound check.

Or….secretly cheersing some bottles of beer together at one of the city’s best dive bars.  With the whole band and crew and even all the wives and shit too.  Yeah, I would be ok with that.

The outfit.  Strangely enough, I am wearing the same outfit that I wore to my very first Pearl Jam show in Chicago at Wrigley last summer.  And there I was scrolling through my Facebook news feed…which I mostly despise…and there it was.  Music for me!!

When you choose clothes, the universe knows…and it makes things happen that mean something…and if you pay attention, you find these strange connections all over the place.

I am hoping there is some connection that leads my hand to shake Eddie’s….eh, who am I kidding, I need a hug. I deserve a hug!!!!
